Role

Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in managing ward and decedent benefits and assisting with the management of estate assets and accounting processes.

Major Duties, Responsibilities

  • Gathers information, applies for and monitors public and private benefits on behalf of clients including SSA, AHCCCS, ALTCS, DDD, pensions and the like.
  • Interviews, investigates, and makes recommendation/determination regarding referrals for indigent burial program. Documents the work for this program, secures and issues authorizations for mortuaries, keeps track of and oversees payment for services under this program, assists in the collection of estate assets for reimbursement to the county. Purchases and supplies markers to cemetery and coordinates services with mortuaries and cemeteries.
  • Monitors, reviews, and analyzes medical billing statements to determine legitimacy of billings. Assures services were received as billed for. Advises Public Fiduciary regarding appropriate health care plans and options for wards. Assures benefit information is documented and retained as appropriate.
  • Works with other office staff in securing and protecting assets of those persons under the protection of the Public Fiduciary. Obtains appraisals and coordinates the sale of assets.
  • Remains cross-trained in the performance of accounting duties including check processing, preparation of annual accountings, and basic accounting functions of the office.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in a public benefit program or in general office accounting.

Additional Requirements:
Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

  • Assure benefit applications and ongoing documentation are done promptly and within required timeframes.
  • Maintain complete and well-organized records for the office.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations/agencies, County officials, and the public.
  • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
  • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
  • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
  • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

Work Environment:
The work environment is associated with an office. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
