COMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISION
The Health and Human Services Agency’s Community Services Division is responsible for the administration of older adult programs for El Dorado County residents 60 years of age and older. These services include: Senior Nutrition, Senior Shuttle, Older Adult Day Services, Long-Term Care Ombudsman, and many more! In addition to the services to seniors, Community Services also administers Veteran Affairs, Animal Services, Public Housing Authority, HEAP & Weatherization programs.

THE OPPORTUNITY
This position will work in the Community Corrections Partnership and be stationed at the Probation Office in Shingle Springs. The position works with incarcerated individuals and probationers to help them transition back into the community with supportive services upon release from jail.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
  • Receive and review program application to determine eligibility and certifies clients for program services; counsel and advise applicants based on their needs and makes appropriate referrals to other community services agencies as applicable.
  • Perform program implementation including the scheduling of trips, collection of fees, reservation of transportation, and the promotion and oversight of scheduled program activities.
  • Provide information about resources, programs, service and entitlements, medicare, medical and other programs which exist under Human Services.
  • Provide basic counseling about aging, nutrition, and low-income concerns and assists clients with independent living and long-term care matters.
  • Maintain liaison with co-workers, community groups, government agencies and other entities to ensure maximum usefulness of programs.
  • Maintain accurate files and records related to contacts with program participants.

Ideal Candidate Statement
This position will provide services for the Community Corrections Partnership, including daily and direct services in support of individuals who are exiting incarceration. The ideal c andidate for this vacancy will have excellent administrative and communication skills, group facilitation and workshop skills, and the ability to work collaboratively as a team with probationers and agency partners at the Probation Department in monitoring and meeting program participant goals. Knowledge of community resources, interview techniques/counseling and experience assisting individuals with applications and determining eligibility are also important tasks of this job. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and/or experience successfully working with and assisting incarcerated individuals or probationers, and/or serving people who have experienced and overcome life challenges and/or traumas, homelessness and/or substance use.

Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following minimum qualifications.

Equivalent to possession of an Associate of Arts degree with major coursework in social services, psychology or a related field,

-AND-

One (1) year of experience in eligibility determination, counseling or intervention or in office sup port work which has included interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations. Relevant experience may be substituted for the education on a year for year basis.
