The Department:

The city of Santa Clara Water & Sewer Utilities serves the City of Santa Clara, California. Our mission includes providing customers with a dependable supply of safe, potable water, environmentally sound wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal, as well as recycled water for approved uses. We also focus on economic and environmental benefits in our programs and services. To promote conservation, we maintain a 15% voluntary water use reduction.

The Position:

The City of Santa Clara Water and Sewer department has an opportunity for a position of As Needed Engineering Aide. Job responsibilities include, prepares scaled and dimensioned plans based on sketches prepared by engineering personnel, maintains records of as-builts and updates existing Utility maps and records utilizing ESRI-based GIS applications, Maintains master map files, including such records of block maps, sewer and water infrastructure maps, and other maps, Performs computing and drafting operations in AutoCAD, involved in checking drawings of utility facilities, perform other duties as assigned.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate of Arts degree or higher in engineering, computer information systems, or its equivalent, including satisfactory completion of college level courses in writing, mathematics, engineering and related courses.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

One (1) year working with geographic information system (GIS) tools and systems and/or

One (1) year working with computer-aided drafting (AUTOCAD).

License/Certifications:

None

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and/or Database Management Systems.

Typical Duties

  • Routine to moderately complex tasks to assist/support the Water and Sewer department in data collection, maintenance, and updates.
  • Assisting the Engineering department in managing and maintaining As-Builts and ensuring they are reflected across all relevant repositories.
  • Assisting the Business Systems Manager in maintaining, managing and updating GIS, Lucity, and other business systems.
