Job Description

Full-time position available with the Water Department, Water Supply & Treatment Plant located at 1 NW Briarcliff Rd
Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday - Thursday 6:30 am - 5:00 pm

Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy-duty, complex, and specialized construction equipment.
  • Performs labor duties related to the maintenance, replacement and repair of Water Supply Treatment Plant and its infrastructures.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as Cranes, Skid loaders, excavators, back-hoes, front end loaders, dump trucks, and other related equipment.
  • Safely excavates underground utilities, and perform land clearing, lifting, pushing and hauling.
  • Performs labor duties related to the maintenance, replacement and repair of Water Supply Treatment Plant and infrastructures.
  • Performs water basin cleaning, concrete and asphalt repairs, picks up debris from job sites, fence lines, parking lots, and turf areas, trim/cut and removes trees, brush and weeds.
  • Transports equipment and/or materials to designated job sites using heavy duty transporting trailers.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned trucks and equipment.
  • Keeps assigned trucks and equipment clean.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Insures proper traffic diversion in and around job sites with traffic cones, barricades, signs, and flags according to appropriate safety standards.
  • Operates and maintains snow removal equipment.
  • The person in this position must be available day or night during snow season for emergency snow removal events. The job duties are primarily outdoor duties that are performed in all types of weather, day or night.



Qualifications

REQUIRES 2 years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation of heavy and complex construction and maintenance equipment. Must possess a valid state -issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. May be required to possess a valid MO Class A, B, or C CDL prior to the end of the employee's probationary period as determined by the department. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
