This position is for a library professional who is passionate about serving the community and looking for part-time hours!

What You'll Be Doing

WCPL is hiring a part-time (20 hours per week) Adult Services Librarian for the Green Road Community Library to focus on the adult population in that community. You will work in the library with a team of Librarians and Library Assistants dedicated to offering quality service and dynamic programming. Beyond delivering programs and providing professional services, you will provide reference, readers' advisory and circulation assistance. Librarians are offered the opportunity to collaborate with managers and peers; and participate in system initiatives, though on a more limited basis due to the part-time schedule.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, promote and present programs and services for new adults through seniors
  • Work directly with the public on a service desk providing circulation, reference, readers' advisory and computer assistance
  • Maintain and merchandise areas of the adult collections
  • Take a lead with Library Assistants assigned to assist in the delivery of programs
  • Serve as Manager on Duty in the absence of the Library Manager

The Green Road Community Library is centrally located at 4101 Green Road, Raleigh 27604 near the Mini City area in Raleigh, close to I-440 and I-540. The library is open 70 hours per week, Mon-Thu 9 am-9 pm, Fri-Sat 9 am-6 pm, and Sun 1 pm-5 pm.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Master's degree in Librarianship or related field: MLS, MLIS, MIS, ML from an ALA accredited program or NC program
  • No specific experience required
  • Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted
  • Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.


Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Coursework in adult services
  • One year of professional librarian experience in adult services
  • Fluency in Spanish
