This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping the youth of Missouri lead healthy lives and improve management of chronic conditions. This position works under the State School Nurse Consultant providing professional development, consultation services and technical assistance to school districts across the state. Job Location: This position will be located Statewide

  • Provide technical assistance, consultation and professional development related to:
    • Nursing protocols and clinical practice guidelines for developing Individualized Health Care Plans for children with special health care needs and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for children with the potential for a life threatening event in the school setting;
    • Best practice guidelines for schools to use for population-based screenings for vision, hearing, oral health and growth and development;
    • Management of chronic health conditions;
    • Development of medication administration procedures and polices related to over-the-counter medications, experimental medications, and delegation and administration; and
    • Federal and state laws pertaining to school health services;
  • Serve as a liaison between local education agencies/local public health agencies and central office staff regarding professional nursing issues;
  • Design and develop reports related to school health data and program activities;
  • Assist with program evaluation and monitoring contracts.
  • Attend meetings, conferences and workshops to further professional competence.
  • Travel will be required with possible overnight stays and overtime.


  • Licensure as a registered nurse and 0-3 years experience as a registered nurse.
  • Candidates should have knowledge of evidence-based school nursing protocols, clinical practice guidelines, professional nursing standards and federal and state laws pertaining to school health services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using technology and a variety of computer programs (including Word, Excel, Power Point, video-conferencing, and online survey platforms) for coordinating activities and project reporting.
