What You'll Be Doing

The Body-Worn Camera Information Technology Specialist will collaborate closely with the existing the System Administrator to provide comprehensive support for the 500+ body-worn cameras utilized by the Wake County Sheriff’s Office Detention Division. This role entails dedicated oversight of the body-worn camera hardware and software system specifically for Detention Support Services. The responsibilities involve meticulous management and maintenance of the system to ensure smooth operation and maximum efficiency.

Essential Functions:
  • Manage user accounts, permissions and access controls to ensure a secure and controlled environment
  • Provide continuous monitoring and maintenance of the system's performance, necessitating regular health checks, troubleshooting and maintenance of supporting devices such as charging stations, holsters and access points
  • Implement data retention policies, ensure compliance with legal requirements and privacy regulations and uphold data integrity and security through encryption and access controls
  • Provide comprehensive user support and training, offer technical assistance to detention personnel, administrators and other system users as well as oversee inventory control management of all body-worn camera components
  • Collaborate with other members in the current Wake County Sheriff IT Division and vendors to integrate the body-worn camera software system with various law enforcement systems, ensuring seamless data sharing and interoperability
  • Stay abreast of advancements in body-worn camera technology, evaluate new features and functionalities and propose system upgrades or enhancements to enhance efficiency, usability and security
  • Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to uphold compliance with relevant laws, regulations and industry standards as security and compliance are imperative to protect the integrity and confidentiality of the body-worn camera system and its data
  • Ensure the integrity and security of digital evidence, assist in its retrieval and presentation as needed and stay updated on the latest technologies and procedures related to digital evidence management
  • Manage all helpdesk requests for Detention personnel, handle warranty claims and coverage for body-worn and in-car cameras and assist with camera upgrades, including hardware and software updates

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field
  • Two years of experience in information systems support
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
