Providing direct support to correctional staff experiencing personal or occupational stressors.

Building expertise on existing local resources and assist with care coordination.

Offering case management to staff to assist in meeting basic needs or accessing resources in the community.

Advocating for the needs of the correctional staff.

Encouraging and facilitating an environment in Corrections that alleviates stigma related to mental health.

Promoting positive organizational change.

Complying with federal and state laws related to mandated reporting and protected health information

Assisting with the implementation of specialized projects and programs that align with the field’s best practices.

Conducting workshops to staff in regards to behavioral health and trauma-informed topics.

Utilizing a supportive, educational approach to promote improved functioning to meet the needs of the staff member.

Demonstrating cultural competency and trauma informed care practices to support diverse client populations.

Providing and/or coordinating a follow-up to staff and conduct outreach if needed.

Using knowledge of psychological concepts, evidenced based interventions and coordinating delivery of mental health services with other services provided by practitioners and community partners.

Using specialized knowledge of behavioral science principles such as: Motivational interviewing, Reinforcement, Operant conditioning, Attitude change, Persuasion, Hierarchy of needs, Interpersonal and group dynamics, and Cognitive processing.

Minimum Qualifications:

Five or more years of experience in corrections, mental/behavioral health, crisis/trauma recovery, or related field.

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university, that includes earned credit hours in psychology, social work, professional counseling, or related field, may substitute for up to four years of the required experience, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year - a minimum of one year of experience is required)

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

  • Experience with psychosocial rehabilitation and group facilitation
  • Prior experience in a forensic, corrections, law enforcement or equivalent setting.
  • Experience working with both individuals and groups.
  • Applicants should have a high degree of cultural competence and the ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Occasional in-state travel may also be required.
  • Candidates must be free of alcohol and chemical dependency.

Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, which is provided to employees with shifts that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, and who work at a 24/7 worksite (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center), or whose work requires regular visits to these locations. If selected for interview, eligibility may be discussed at that time with the hiring manager.

The Department of Corrections is the only State agency that currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of service up to 20 years.
