Job Description

As the Assistant Engineer I, you will work with engineers, project managers, construction managers, contract developers and administrators, water system operations staff, and technical specialists under direct supervision in an exciting and dynamic environment while learning and assisting from the best within the water industry.

This position will be with our Engineering Service Group under the General Design team at Metropolitan’s office in downtown Los Angeles, California. The General Design Team, provides civil engineering services to support study, design and construction support of Metropolitan infrastructures and substructures on water storage, conveyance, distribution, and treatment projects. The successful applicant will learn and apply the principles of civil engineering in both the design of new facilities and assessment of existing facilities operated by Metropolitan. This includes, but is not limited to, training and performing design of grading, drainage, pavement, water supply, and sewer analysis.

In this position, you will assist in the design of new facilities and the rehabilitation of existing conveyance, distribution, and treatment facilities, including pipelines, pumping plants, tank farms, buildings, patrol roads and buried structures. The work includes civil design calculations, grading, preparation of site plans, sections and details, traffic control plans, hydraulic calculations, sanitary sewer, storm drains and pavement design. Work includes assisting with project coordination, technical report writing, oral presentation, site investigation and construction support. Both office and field work will be required.

Schedule: 44/36, Monday through Friday, every other Friday off.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field by hired date.

Related Field is defined as: Engineering (Civil, Sanitary, Environmental, Mechanical) or Environmental Sciences.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
