Regional Government Services and its staff are conducting this recruitment on behalf of the Marina Coast Water District. A 10% COLA will be effective July 2024. THE POSITION
As a valued member of the Water Resources Division, performs professional-level civil engineering work under direction in the planning, hydraulic modeling, design, and construction of water, wastewater, recycled water and capital infrastructure improvement, maintenance and construction projects; reviews a diverse range of engineering plans, specifications, calculations studies, reports, and related documents; develops project budgets, engineer’s estimates, construction schedules, technical specifications, and special conditions as well as engineering reports, plans, and studies; conducts site visits to monitor construction project progress; serves as project manager for complex engineering projects, as assigned.
The Water Resources Assistant Engineer will work on various water resources, groundwater sustainability, and climate action plan projects. The initial projects will range from monitoring wells, water augmentation projects (desal, aquifer storage and recovery (ASR)), indirect potable re-use (IPR), direct potable re-use (DPR)), groundwater monitoring wells, and solar projects. The incumbent will be participating in all stages of projects from feasibility analysis, conceptual design, design, and construction.

- Have knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering, project management, and an understanding of applicable state, federal, and local laws, codes, regulations, and procedures.

ABOUT THE DISTRICT
BackgroundIn 1958, a local group of dedicated citizens, known as the Marina Community Service Corporation, proposed the formation of a municipal-owned water system with boundaries to coincide with the existing Marina Fire District, which was approximately 1,600 acres. Two years later, the Marina County Water District was formed registered voters of the then unincorporated city of Marina. In 1966, voters authorized the sale of water bonds totaling $950,000 to acquire a privately owned water company serving the area.
Our Vision Today, we serve more than 40,000 customers and 9,500 accounts split roughly equally between Central Marina and the Ord Community on the former military base, including California State University (CSU) Monterey Bay. Our vision is to become the leading public supplier of integrated water and wastewater services in the Monterey Bay Region.

Typical QualificationsQUALIFICATONSAny combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Bachelor’s degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related engineering field.
- Professional engineering or related field/planning (including internship) experience preferably in a public utility environment desired.
License: Must possess Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with State of California or certification must be acquired within 12 months from date of hire; and must possess a valid California class C driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Marina Coast Water District is an Equal Opportunity Employer. BENEFITSSalary Range (Plus a 10% COLA effective July 2024): Assistant Engineer: $85,740.67 - $109,429.24 (Range 21)
Retirement - The District participates in CalPERS, with Social Security. Benefit is 2% @ 60 for classic members with the District paying the employee share. And 2% @ 62 For new members as defined by PEPRA, subject to the limitations set by PERS. Employee pays the employee portion (new employees only).
Health Insurance (Medical/Dental/Vision/EAP) - District provides health insurance plan options and provides full employee coverage and a portion of the premium for coverage for employee dependents.
Deferred Compensation - Optional enrollment in a pre-tax payroll-deducted 457 plan. The District will match an employee's contribution up to a maximum of $2,500 annually.
