Job Summary: As an essential member of the Public Safety Department within the Division of Administration Finance and Technology, the Manager of Emergency Management/Business Continuity will provide strategic direction in all areas of emergency preparedness and management and is responsible for assessing, revising, communicating, and maintaining the campus Emergency Management Plan, including disaster mitigation, preparedness, planning, training, education, response, business continuity, and recovery. Responsibilities Under the general direction of the Patrol Operations Commander, the Lieutenant, Patrol Operations is responsible for indirect supervision of a shift of police officers, corporals, and sergeants engaged in a variety of law enforcement, public safety, and crime prevention activities. The incumbent exercises indirect management oversight over a night shift of parking officers, community service officers, and student Matador Patrol staff. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, directing resources, reviewing and approving recommendations for functional programs and responsible for performing all of the duties performed by a sworn police officer. Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of a shift of police officers, corporals, and sergeants, organized into shifts and engaged in various law enforcement and crime prevention activities, such as motorized patrols, traffic control and enforcement, K9, accident and crime scene investigations, preliminary investigations of alleged criminal activities, and the Community Service Officer program. Three (3) of the seven years of experience must be in a command role or a minimum of three years of experience as a police sergeant, preferably within the California State University (CSU) system, University of California (UC) system, or other comparable law enforcement agency. Ability to: analyze situations, direct union personnel and manage performance (counseling, commendations) and progressive discipline process, develop effective team strategies with units/sections, work effectively in physically, psychologically, and emotionally stressful situations, and effectively manage emergency or life-threatening situations.
