Job Description

Two full-time positions available with the General Services Department, Facilities Division located at 414 E. 12th St.
Salary Range: $20.48-$30.71/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the work of a moderate size force of security officers responsible for maintaining order and the security of municipal property.
  • Establishes procedures to ensure effective security of vital areas.
  • Investigates security violations, accidents, emergencies, disturbances.
  • Detains for violation of laws or ordinances.
  • Assists in preparing work schedules to provide adequate security protection for a variety of activities and buildings owned by the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
  • Visits sites to monitor activity of contract security officers.
  • Observes and evaluates work performance.
  • Monitors conditions in a variety of City owned buildings and/or properties to monitor the conditions at those locations.
  • Reviews reports of actions taken as submitted by contract security.
  • Prepares reports of incidents that may occur on City property.
  • Monitors electronic access control and camera systems. •
  • Must obtain a commission from the Private Officer's Licensing Unit as either an unarmed or armed guard as needed.
  • Assists in providing security for all persons using or visiting City of Kansas City, Missouri facilities.
  • Provides support to other departments and law enforcement agencies as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.



Qualifications

REQUIRES high school graduation and possession of certificate of completion of a recognized police academy at the state, county or municipal level and 3 years experience as a fully commissioned police officer; OR an accredited Associate's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related area and 1 year of responsible security and/or law enforcement experience; OR high school graduation and 5 years of responsible security and/or law enforcement experience. Must be eligible to obtain a special police commission as issued by the KCMO Police Department. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
