Job Description

The Health & Nutrition Supervisor is responsible for ensuring Jefferson County Head Start (JCHS) provides inclusive, culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate health promotion and nutrition services to meet the needs of a diverse community of children, families, and staff. Oversee the Health Promotion and Nutrition components of the Head Start program through the development and implementation of health promotion activities to support the physical and mental well-being of children, families, and staff., Provide coaching and supervision to the Head Start Nutritionist, Head Start Health Coordinator, and the part-time Child Care Health Consultant. Ensure compliance with Federal Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), Health Department and Child Care Licensing Rules & Regulations, Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements, and internal policies and procedures.

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, reviewing, administering, and setting standards and goals for health and nutrition for Head Start. As a member of the leadership team, the Health and Nutrition Supervisor contributes to programmatic, long-range planning and initiatives and responds to concerns and issues as appropriate to create a cohesive team environment. Schedule :

T his positions operates on a typical 5 day work week schedule , Monday-Friday. This position is full time in-person.

Compensation:

Hiring Range: $7 2 ,000 - $ 76,050. USD Annually

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

Essential Duties:

  • Oversee the health component of the program to ensure that daily and ongoing health needs of children enrolled in the program are met in compliance with HSPPS and in alignment with best practice. Coordinate and implement health promotion education and training for Head Start children, families, and staff. Ensure that health requirements, including health screenings, are completed within the required timeframes and that appropriate referrals are provided, and follow-up care is supported. Monitor and analyze program data related to health and wellness and utilize data to recommend and implement program improvements. Maintain budget for health component.
  • Oversee the implementation of nutrition programming including the coordination of our scratch kitchen and food service for both sites in compliance with HSPPS and CACFP guidelines, and in alignment with best practice. Ensure that CACFP reimbursement claims are submitted monthly, and that special nutrition needs of children enrolled in the program are met, including accommodations for allergies, food sensitivities, and cultural needs. Ensure nutrition education opportunities are available to Head Start families. Maintain budget for nutrition component.
  • Serve on the Head Start leadership team to support strategic planning, integration of program services, assist in program decision making, report on health and nutrition components, and act as Manager on Duty (MOD).
  • Conduct outreach to community partners to seek support for Head Start program and grow the health and nutrition services being offered by the program. Coordinate and facilitate the Health Services Advisory Committee in compliance with performance standards. Participate in relevant committees, boards, and advisory groups for community partners to further the mission and vision of Head Sta rt.
  • Supervises staff in area of responsibility. Administers and makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraisals, and taking corrective action. Conducts performance evaluations and communicates short- and long-term goals and objectives. Submits personnel records and reports as required by the county. Assists and advises subordinates as necessary, resolves problems as non-routine situations arise, and ensures adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards. Communicates changes in policy and procedures to direct reports and implements them as directed.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or related field;
  • A minimum of three years of experience;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education & experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Public Health, or related field.
  • 3 years of public health-related work experience


  • 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Head Start experience
  • Experience working with children aged 0-5 & low-income populations
