As a Crew Lead, you will oversee the construction and repair of roads, drainage, and culvert systems. Assign and direct crew activities following supervisor instructions. Ensure assets, resources, and work activities are managed appropriately and accurately in the division’s operations management system. Responsible for daily work distribution, maintaining work schedules, and providing technical instruction to skilled and semi-skilled crews.

The ideal candidate is a true leader with the ability to motivate and provide direction and control of the day-to-day operations of the crew, as well as embrace the different managerial aspects of the role. Effective communication is a critical component of the role, providing direct communication with the team, with problem-solving aptitude and the confidence to be decisive in the moment whose leadership updated on status of various projects. Willingness to learn and provide mentorship to others during on-site troubleshooting while maintaining a positive and professional attitude. This position demonstrates proficient knowledge and operation of heavy equipment used in construction, maintenance, and repair, effectively maintain a crew schedule, have knowledge of safety standards to ensure crew safety.

Schedule: This position operates on a seasonal schedule, Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm in the winter months; Monday-Thursday, 6:00am-4:00pm in the summer months. *Must be available to respond to emergencies and snow removal operations 24 hours a day/seven days a week. Must report to assigned shop within one hour of being called.

This position operates out of the District II South Shop, serving Littleton, Ken Caryl and Morrison.

Hiring Range: $30.74 - $33.00 USD Hourly

Total Base Pay Range: 27.32 - 34.15 - 40.98 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

Essential Duties:
  • Safely operate and drive vehicles and equipment as needed.
  • Direct maintenance activities, operations, programs, and services, including construction and repair of roads, drainage, and culvert systems. Assign and direct crew activities according to supervisor instructions. Schedule and coordinate maintenance activities and projects.
  • Assist crew members with resolving problems and concerns while ensuring adherence to policies and standards. Review and approve subordinate activity sheets.
  • Prioritize the crew and the public's safety around the project sites by ensuring the proper traffic control plans are in place and adhered to.
  • Ensure roads are clear during snow events performing snow removal, ice control, and sweeping operations. May oversee snow and ice control operations, inspect roadways and worksites for hazardous conditions, quality control, and proper safety precautions to ensure a safe and reliable transportation system for the County's residents and the traveling public.
  • Keep daily time records and maintain daily activity logs, including completed tasks. Provide daily reports both verbally and in writing of work needed, accomplished, or in progress. Ensure assets, resources, and work activities are managed appropriately and accurately in the division’s operations management system.
  • Serve as a Procurement Card Holder, place orders, process, and reconcile P-Card transactions. Purchase and maintain inventory levels of supplies and materials.
  • Oversee crews and maintenance activities. Perform other related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Perform equipment and vehicle pre/post-trip inspections as defined by federal guidelines, and inspect other items affecting safe operations. Perform routine cleaning and minor maintenance, as necessary.
  • Inspect and prepare all equipment for use by performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on trucks and equipment, including fueling, cleaning, lubricating, and changing tires. Plan and request maintenance service and repair for specific equipment. Prepare equipment for specific uses by making necessary modifications.
  • Report incidents, accidents, traffic violations, damage to equipment, vehicles, and utilities.
  • Ensure the various components of the Road & Bridge Safety Management Program are adhered to including the proper use of PPE. Ensure a safe environment consistent with regulatory and organizational requirements and needs. Adhere to all relative policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties, including flagging and setting up traffic control devices to ensure work zone requirements are met.
  • Keep time, activity, mileage records, and logs.
  • Respond to emergencies and snow removal operations 24 hours a day seven days a week. Report to assigned shop within one hour of being called.
  • Responsible for assisting with the basic development and training of fellow employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned at varying locations.

Minimal Qualifications :
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with specialized or technical training past the high school equivalency.
  • A minimum ofthreeyears work-related experience in the operation of equipment and/or vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more.
  • Must be at least 18 years old by hire date.
  • Valid Driver’s License for 2 consecutive years prior to hire date. If from out of state, must obtain a Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of hire.
  • Must possess a valid Class B or A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake restriction removedas well as a valid Department of Transportation(DOT) medical card at the time of hire. Must have Tanker endorsementwithin 30 days of hire.
  • May be required to obtain Flagger, Traffic Control Supervisor, Stormwater Management, and/or Erosion Control certifications. May be required to obtain a Class A CDL or a Hazmat endorsement.
  • Respond to emergencies and snow removal operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and report to an assigned shop within one hour of being called.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
  • Experience with road construction or maintenance
  • Experience with asphalt and milling operations
  • Experience with public works
