Job Description

Two full-time positions available with the General Services Department, Architect Division located at 414 East 12th Street
Salary Range: $5,173-$7,759/month
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee remodels and new construction projects from inception to execution, including planning, design, execution, monitoring, completion and reporting of assigned projects, with an emphasis on interior design.
  • Engages and manages outside resources, such as engineers, design professionals, inspectors, and contractors as well as internal resources such as tenant departments, internal City departments, and other public entities and stakeholders.
  • Maintains main point of contact for multiple tenant departments within the City, is expected to manage resources appropriately so that the project is completed in accordance with the defined scope and within budget and schedule, and should be able to prepare budgets, cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Ensures that all project tasks are completed in accordance with appropriate regulations, ordinances, codes (building and otherwise), and requirements.
  • Identifies tasks, assign responsibilities, identify, and set deadlines, monitor progress and risk, and provide periodic progress reports in systems of record to senior management, elected and appointed officials, and project stakeholders, including the public.
  • Manages projects of a medium level of complexity, and multiple projects at a time at differing phases of development.
  • Operates with a high degree of independence and minimal supervision.
  • A considerable amount of professional judgement is required for the performance of this work.



Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, project management, construction management, engineering technology, construction engineering technology, engineering, city planning, landscape architecture, or architecture and 4 years professional experience in project management or project management related work. OR an accredited Master's degree in business administration, public administration, project management, construction management, engineering technology, construction engineering technology, engineering, city planning, landscape architecture, or architecture and 2 years professional experience in project management or project management related work. OR a certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and 4 years as a PMP working in project management or project management related work. May be required to pass a preemployment drug screen. May be required to possess a valid State -issued drivers license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies.

Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
