Job Description

The Office of Administration (“OA”) is seeking a legal intern to join its legal team in the Office of Administration’s Commissioner’s Office. OA serves as the administrative and managerial arm of the Governor’s Office and provides services and support to state executive agencies to better serve Missourians and all our customers. Our legal internship program is designed to provide an opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of legal work concerning government administration and gain a valuable and rewarding experience aimed at enhancing skills and understanding the responsibilities of government in-house legal counsel.

In this position, you will work closely and collaboratively with OA attorneys to research and provide legal guidance in the areas of personnel administration and labor relations; contracting; information technology; facilities management, design and construction; budget and planning; accounting; prescription drug monitoring; office of child advocate; office of equal opportunity; and general services such as the state’s workers’ compensation program, the legal expense fund, and fleet vehicle management to OA’s executive leadership.

OA is developing a larger internship program to cover a range of relevant topics across executive agencies, tours of several state institutions, and networking opportunities to connect with professionals in the legal field within state government. We are committed to offering a well-rounded experience that combines practical learning with valuable state government connections, ensuring that our interns are equipped for a successful future in the legal profession. The internship program is scheduled to take place from May to August, depending on the candidate’s academic calendar.

  • You will work collaboratively with the OA legal team to provide legal guidance on a variety of topics related to government administration for executive leadership within OA and perform other responsibilities as assigned by the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel;
  • Conduct research and prepare legal memorandums interpreting draft legislation, laws, rulings, and regulations for OA leadership;
  • Draft and review administrative regulations, proposed legislation, and other legal documents;
  • Respond to open records requests and subpoenas; and
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation, case law, and administrative rulings as well as pending legislation and administrative regulations pertinent to the operations of OA and state government.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have completed a bachelor's degree and be presently enrolled in law school.
  • Must possess, and maintain, an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher out of 4.0.
