Description:

Jefferson County’s Fleet Division is looking for a Mechanic in our light vehicle shop.

The Fleet Mechanic has a crucial role in performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing and repairing engine, transmission, brake, electrical, emissions, and hydraulic systems on light and medium-duty equipment, as well as maintaining and servicing a growing fleet of electric vehicles. They are responsible for ensuring the proper operation and safety of County vehicles and equipment. Additionally, the mechanic keeps records of vehicle services and repairs, tracks replacement parts, and maintains inventory.

This position operates on our four-day work week (Monday-Thursday; 6:00am - 4:30 pm). This position is on site at the light shop in Golden. Jefferson County provides tools, uniforms, and safety boots.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $27.50 - $30.50 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

Essential Duties:

TheFleet Mechanicis responsible for:

Maintaining and repairing vehicles, which may include:
  • Electric Vehicle diagnosis and repair
  • Perform major engine adjustments and rebuilds
  • Rebuild or replace vehicle parts
  • Perform mechanical repairs on drive train, brake, steering and other functional parts
  • Replace vehicle operating systems
  • Tune engines
  • Perform welding or machine work
  • Towing inoperable units
  • Working with customers to ensuring repairs


Maintaining records of repair work and service by:
  • Inspecting mechanical equipment and parts.
  • Keeping accurate parts inventory.
  • Monitor and schedule preventive maintenance as required.
  • Recording accurate accounts of repairs made on equipment.

Minimal Qualifications :
  • High School diploma or equivalent certificate and
  • One year related work experience as a mechanic.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications :
  • ASE auto mechanic certification
  • CDL
  • EV training and experience
  • Towing
  • Welding
  • Emissions License
