This position may be filled at one of three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The entry salary is posted above, an intermediate starting salary of $54,953.76 and a senior starting salary of $59,350.08.

The geographic information system specialist performs routine entry-level activities in the design, implementation, and support of geographic information systems (GIS) applications and databases. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

What you'll do:
  • Create custom maps utilizing MoDOT's Transportation Management Systems (TMS) data. TMS is MoDOT's statewide roadway database. Knowledge of ESRI's Arc Pro software is beneficial.
  • Create, edit, and update files used to develop the Missouri State Highway Map, district maps, county maps, and a variety of other maps used both internally and externally.
  • Use cartographic skills to deliver professional looking custom maps as requested along with those on a regular schedule.
  • Provide customer service and responds to special requests, including troubleshooting and assisting users with TMS data and mapping issues, research and data collection for special requests, and presentations as necessary.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to improve the efficiency of current processes where applicable.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree: Geography, Computer Science, Surveying, Geographic Information Systems, or related field.

  • Waiver of minimum requirements may be allowed.
  • Substitution of education for the experience requirement may be allowed.
  • Substitution of experience for education may be allowed.
