Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, which is provided to employees with shifts that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, and who work at a 24/7 worksite (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center), or whose work requires regular visits to these locations. If selected for interview, eligibility may be discussed at that time with the hiring manager.

The Department of Corrections is the only State agency that currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of service up to 20 years!

What you'll do:

Inspects buildings and grounds for the fire and safety hazards; identifies and reports hazards; recommends/monitors necessary corrective action; establishes fire and disaster evacuation procedures in cooperation with department heads and the public fire department; instructs facility staff in the implementation of these procedures

Investigates accident and injury reports and makes recommendations to prevent future incidents; plans/coordinates/supervises fire and disaster drills; implements fire and safety requirements established by laws/regulations/codes and applicable accreditation and certification agencies

Coordinates safety activities; serves on facility safety committees; identifies and eliminates safety hazards; directs fire-fighting/evacuation/rescue operations during fires or other disasters; conducts training in basic fire-fighting tactics, operation of fire-fighting equipment, first aid, workplace safety and emergency procedures

Monitors construction projects for compliance with facility policies regarding the safety and security of residents/staff/the public; develops capital improvement recommendations to correct deficiencies in fire and safety standards; prepares and maintains records of recommendations and activities relating to the prevention/elimination of fire and safety hazards

Exercises independence/judgement/initiative in the performance of duties; receives general administrative direction; performs other related work as assigned

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications:

Two or more years of experience, relevant/similar to the above listed job duties; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university, that include credit hours in Fire Science, Industrial Safety, or closely related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year)

Experience, and/or certification, in firefighting, building inspections, or OSHA compliance is preferred.
