Job Description

The Human Resources Department seeks to find people who believe work is more than a paycheck and want to be part of one of America’s fastest-growing cities and one of the best places to live in the U.S. The City of Allen empowers employees to think big, find innovative solutions, and work together to solve problems, which means setting them up for success. The HR Department oversees recruitment, onboarding and orientation, benefits, risk management, employee relations, compensation, training and organizational development, safety, employee engagement and culture, performance, workforce planning, and personnel policy for the City of Allen. It also oversees Workers Compensation, fund management, safety, property, and liability. Employees stay with the City of Allen for an average of eight years, which is more than twice the national average. The HR Department supports employees who want to advance their career by investing in training opportunities, professional conferences, and tuition reimbursement. The HR Department has 12 employees and an annual budget of $1.4 million.

The City of Allen is seeking a strategic, solutions-focused leader to serve as its next Director of Human Resources. The ideal candidate is emotionally intelligent with excellent customer service acumen. They will have a team mentality and be a relationship builder, with a track record of success in fostering a positive team environment. The chosen candidate will have experience in a broad range of human resources issues, with experience in the public sector preferred. The ideal candidate can effectively navigate multiple competing priorities and find creative solutions while maintaining a holistic view of the organization.

Job Requirements

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field, with a master’s degree preferred. A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience, including supervisory experience, is required. An equivalent combination of training, education, and/or experience will be considered. Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver’s license. PHR/SPHR or other Human Resources certifications are preferred.
