Summary
About the Role:
The position provides an entry level opportunity for external candidates to obtain experience and training in engineering, project management and construction management. Candidates will be involved in conveyance projects, pump station upgrades, and treatment plant upgrades.

The following are on-going or upcoming projects: Lakeland Hills Pump Station, West Point Raw Sewage Pump Replacement, Black River Pump Station High Use Engines, West Point Grit Classifier, Mouth of the Duwamish CSO, Nutrient Removal, Tukwila Freeway Crossing Replacement, Richmond Beach Force main and Interceptor Upgrade, Boeing Creek Trunk Replacement and Upgrade, West Point Digestion Capacity Expansion, Brightwater Aeration Basin Optimization, Brightwater Reclaimed Water Storage, South Plant Biogas Upgrade, WP Power Quality Improvement Project, Sammamish Diversion Project.

This position performs work remotely and onsite.

Job Duties
What You Will Be Doing:
  • Provide basic engineering designs and assist in complex wastewater engineering designs for new construction projects and repairs and modifications to existing facilities.
  • Assist in preparing wastewater project work plans, schedules, and budgets; assemble technical information for use by the project teams and journey/senior/principal engineers.
  • Assist in reviews of consultant pre-design and final design documents. Validate economic analyses including technical assumptions and cost factors. Assist in the procurement process for consultants, equipment, and construction work.
  • Assist in reviewing consultant design work to identify and resolve potential design coordination conflicts between disciplines; ensure that design standards and code requirements have been implemented.
  • Provide technical assistance during construction, including submittal reviews, RFI responses, and construction inspections.
  • Provide project management functions for smaller projects and work orders.
  • Provide field observations during construction.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering. (Accepting spring / summer graduates)
  • Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of mathematics, physical and engineering sciences, and the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design.

Required Licenses:
  • Washington State Driver's License.
It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:
  • Master's degree in chemical, electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering or other related fields.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE / EIT) certification
  • Familiarity with wastewater and/or industrial facilities and construction principles and techniques are preferred.
  • Mechanical / Chemical / Civil Engineers: Basic knowledge of hydraulic calculations
  • Instrumentation & Control System Engineer: Basic knowledge of measurement instruments and digital logic.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals from consultants, Operations and Maintenance, other County staff, and other stakeholders is essential in ensuring that project schedules and contracts follow County standards.
  • Ability to use collaborative processes to successfully execute projects involving a diverse group of individuals from a matrixed organization.
  • Knowledge and awareness of racial bias and inequalities. Skills to identify and successfully address racial inequities in the workplace and in the services provided to customers and stakeholders.

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions:
  • Remote and Onsite Work Details: Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with onsite reporting requirements typically weekly. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104). This work arrangement promotes work-life-balance and reduces carbon footprint under the department's vision of Green Where We Work.
  • Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
  • Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hours work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
  • Union Representation: This position is represented by T echnical Employee's Association (TEA).
  • Duration: This recruitment aims to fill several Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) positions with an anticipated up to 3-year assignment.
