ABOUT THE POSITION

The first 75 applicants that meet the County of Marin’s minimum qualifications will be guaranteed to move forward to the next testing step.

Under supervision and depending on assignment, Seasonal Firefighters perform a wide variety of firefighting duties. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working for one of the finest fire departments in the state.

Seasonal Firefighters perform firefighting duties including fire suppression, maintenance and lookout duties and assist regular hire employees. Seasonal Firefighters initially work under close supervision while receiving training which includes New Seasonal Fire Academy, Returning Seasonal Fire Academy, Wildland Firefighting Academy and general training. As knowledge, skills and abilities increase, they are expected to work with more independence, under general supervision and may function as a lead worker.

Firefighter Crewassignment differs from Firefighter (Engine) in that the Firefighter (Crew) employee functions in a crew capacity, working on fuels reduction projects and hand crew fire suppression.

Additional responsibilities include repairing equipment and general housekeeping. In contrast, the Firefighter (Engine) works on an engine in a station assignment. Firefighter (Crew) do NOT work out of a traditional fire station; they are based out of a separate headquarters.

There are temporary positions for staffing during the peak wildland fire season (3-9 months). Shifts are 10 hours a day, four days per week, with potential of being held on duty if the need arises.
