Qualifications This position requires: -Educational background: California Licensed Architect, or Fire Protection Engineer, or related bachelor’s degree or other relevant comparable experience in design/compliance/construction field. Relevant comparable training examples: Certification as an ICC Fire Plans Examiner, Building Plans Examiner, Fire Inspector, California State Fire Marshal or other local public agency fire authority plans examiner. -Industry experience: 3+ years of architectural, engineering, construction industry experience on a broad variety of projects. -Specific field experience: 3+ years of field and plan review experience in performing plan review, technical inspection, and/or supervision of general construction projects including fire, life, and panic safety code compliance. Responsibilities Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Fire Safety , the Campus Fire Marshal will perform duties as outlined below: -Responsible to assist in the development and implementation of the CSU fire and panic safety program under the guidance of the appropriate Deputy Director of Fire Safety. -The employee will be required to complete the training identified by the OSFM/CSU Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to prove competency and receive OSFM DCFM approval within 18 months of employment with the CSU. During the training and certification period, the CFM will: -Review design documents and construction plans for compliance with fire and safety codes. -Facilitate, coordinate, and track individual plan review/approvals to a timely and code complaint conclusion. Serve as a CSU CO representative to collaboratively resolve issues relative to fire safety code and regulations. -Engage all stakeholders. Upon review and approval by the State Fire Marshal of the individual’s appropriate level of expertise, the incumbent will become a Designated Campus Fire Marshal (DCFM). The City of El Segundo seeks a Building Safety Manager to join its Community Development team. This position requires a dynamic and motivated individual willing to contribute to the innovative changes happening in the El Segundo Community. The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight, planning, and management of the Building Safety Division. The Building Safety Manager will liaise with other City departments and external agencies to coordinate activities and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Additionally, the Manager will serve as the City's Building Official and carry out related duties as directed. Licensing/Certification Requirements: International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Building Official is required within six (6) months of appointment. Certified Access Specialist (CASp) certification by the State of California Division of State Architecture as an expert in disability access laws is highly desirable. Possession of a valid California driver's license. Qualifications Guidelines: Education: Bachelor's degree (120 units) from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, Business Administration, Architecture or a directly related field. Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience as a structural engineer, journey level Building Inspector or Certified Plans Examiner, including experience in building inspection, plan review and enforcement of building codes and two (2) years of supervisory experience.
