Introduction Provides direct support to the Solid Waste Services Supervisor in the residential, brush and commercial programs. Responsible for performing lead responsibilities and a wide variety of diverse heavy equipment operator duties for one or more programs in the delivery of solid waste refuse collection, disposal, recycling collection and/or transfer services. May provide coverage in the absence of the supervisor. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent. Two years of experience operating sanitation, heavy truck, and/or construction equipment. Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Arizona driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. Must possess at time of hire/promotion, at minimum, a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction and will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law. Essential Functions Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following: Assists Supervisor in evaluating, maintaining and assigning collection routes. Conducts site inspections to respond to citizen and driver concerns. Communicates with customers regarding collection concerns, general information, or problems relating to solid waste and recycling services. Observes and/or monitors equipment and employees to ensure compliance with operating standards and/or safety standards. Assists Supervisor in coordinating the day-to-day scheduling and assigning of work of Equipment Operators; provides technical advice to lower-level Equipment Operators; mentors, recommends and/or delivers training, reviews work and provides performance input of Equipment Operators to supervisor. Operates a refuse collection truck to include a side loader, front loader and roll-off truck to collect a wide variety of containers, bins, and/or boxes for the section to which assigned. Serves as a relief driver for a variety of Solid Waste routes. Work Environment/Physical Demands Operate a variety of standard office equipment including computer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement. Sit for extended periods of time while driving a large sanitation truck maintaining constant vigilance to the surrounding area. Reach overhead, bend, and stoop repeatedly; climb up and down ladders; work in rough, uneven alleys. Lift and move up to 50 pounds or more on a continuous basis. Visual , muscular, and manual dexterity to service equipment; use a rake, shovel, pitchfork, and/or broom; perform manual labor on an ongoing basis; operate equipment, two-way radio, common hand tools, such as hammer, saw, screwdriver; and computer. Work with paints, deodorizers, cleansers, or similar solutions. Exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant odors.
