Have knowledge and understanding of the official rules of inline hockey as developed and updated by USA Roller Sports (USARS) as well as additionally adopted rules by the City of Escondido Adult Roller Hockey Program. When necessary, shall assess game penalties for violations of the rules and maintain fair play, including but not limited to ejecting players who violate hockey misconduct policies and the Community Services Department Code of Conduct. Provide accurate reporting and statistics to the scorekeeper during game play. Inspect and approve hockey player's safety equipment prior to game play. Shall provide explanations of rules when requested. Shall consistently and fairly officiate game play. Complete and submit truthfully detailed reports following player misconduct ejections and game play incidents/injuries. Clearly communicate with players, coaches, spectators, and other parties in a respectful manner. Provide excellent customer service while maintaining enforcing all rules professionally. The Community Services Department is currently recruiting for a Recreation Specialist - Roller Hockey Referee at the Escondido Sports Center. This thriving sports facility includes two roller hockey arenas, one regulation-sized soccer arena, one “mini” soccer arena, and a 22,000 square foot skate park. The anticipated schedule will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. Key Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor or their designee at the Escondido Sports Center, the Recreation Specialist (Roller Hockey Referee) is responsible for the general supervision of youth and adult hockey games by enforcing the rules and maintaining the order of the game. Have knowledge and understanding of the official rules of inline hockey as developed and updated by USA Roller Sports (USARS) as well as additionally adopted rules by the City of Escondido Adult Roller Hockey Program. When necessary, shall assess game penalties for violations of the rules and maintain fair play, including but not limited to ejecting players who violate hockey misconduct policies and the Community Services Department Code of Conduct. Provide accurate reporting and statistics to the scorekeeper during game play. Inspect and approve hockey player's safety equipment prior to game play. Shall provide explanations of rules when requested. Shall consistently and fairly officiate game play. Complete and submit truthfully detailed reports following player misconduct ejections and game play incidents/injuries. Clearly communicate with players, coaches, spectators, and other parties in a respectful manner. Provide excellent customer service while maintaining enforcing all rules professionally. Assist in all in game emergencies and injuries. Performs other game related duties as assigned. Attend all meetings and trainings that support the continued professional development as a game official. The ideal candidate for this position will: Work well in a team environment as well as individually while displaying excellent customer service skills. Have a depth of knowledge of inline roller hockey. Work efficiently in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. Minimum requirements: 16 years of age.
