THE CITY OF PLACENTIA IS NOW HIRING FOR THE POSITION OF

POLICE CADET

The Placentia Police Department is seeking dedicated individuals who work with integrity and value public service to serve as a Police Cadet. City of Placentia Police Department: Biennial Report 2021-2022

THE POSITION: Under general supervision, the Police Cadet will have the opportunity to assist the Placentia Police Department with a wide variety of non-sworn duties and a variety of routine law enforcement support duties which do not require the attention of a sworn police officer. This position is part-time, at-will, unbenefited, and work schedule will not exceed 29 hours per week.

Examples of Duties

  • Performs record keeping and clerical tasks; distributes mail to departmental personnel and copies of records to insurance companies and law firms related to traffic records and other types of police reports.
  • Assists parties at the public counter by answering basic questions, locating personnel; making copies of reports, and gathering information for incidents.
  • Enforces City parking regulations by issuing parking or warning citations as required; assists in directing traffic at accident or traffic sites.
  • Organizes assembles and verifies complete records packages for misdemeanor and felony cases and submit them to Criminal Court.
  • Conducts authorized searches for records and cases and updates files.
  • Fingerprint applicants, volunteers, and interns working for the City; process identification photographs.
  • Assists in the delivery of public communications programs.
  • Maintains a variety of statistical reports and records, and performs related clerical duties.
  • Assists Range Master, Property, Vehicle Maintenance, and Identification and Communications staff with related questions.
  • Conducts basic research and provides law enforcement support for other units.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the G.E.D (General Education Development) exam.
  • One year of public contact experience is highly desirable.


LICENSE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • A valid Class C California driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record during the course of employment is required.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have no prior felony convictions.


KNOWLEDGE OF
Data entry and recordkeeping practices; use of proper English grammar, spelling, and punctuation in completing and verifying information in basic police reports and other records; radio codes and transmission procedures; customer service techniques.

ABILITY TO
Learn and adhere to local ordinances and regulations; complete and review traffic collision reports and routine police records; operate computer hardware and modern office equipment; enter and retrieve data; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other law enforcement agencies, and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this class, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk while serving at the public counter and preparing and distributing records. The employee must be able to use hands to handle, feel or operate computer hardware and standard office equipment; and reach with hands and arms above and below shoulder level. The employee occasionally lifts and carries records and documents weighing less than 20 pounds.

Sensory demands include the ability to see within a normal range including having close range and the ability to adjust focus, talk, and hear, and use electronic touch keypads.

MENTAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use oral and written communication skills; read and interpret standards; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; establish priorities and work on multiple assignments concurrently; and interact appropriately with law enforcement personnel, the general public, and others in the course of work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee primarily works indoors in an office setting. In the office, the employee works in controlled temperature settings and the noise level is moderate, typically below 70 decibels. The employee is subject to traffic and variable weather conditions in driving a vehicle to and from maintenance facilities, distributing Court records, and civilian subpoenas.

Retirement - California Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) PST Deferred Compensation Plan. Contribution to this account is 7.5% per pay period, the City pays 3.75% and the employee pays 3.75% deducted from salary. Additionally, e?????mployee pays 1.45% ???????towards Medicare per paycheck.

Part-Time Sick Leave -24 hours of sick leave per fiscal year with a banked max of 48 hours.
