Ideal Candidate

The City is seeking motivated candidates with a strong customer service orientation and proven organizational skills to join the department.

Work Schedule Flexible, to be determined. This position is at-will.

THE POSITION
Under general supervision, the Police Services Aide is responsible for pick-up and drop-off of department vehicles at the corporation yard, car wash or other related locations; running errands to miscellaneous locations; accepting and/or directing deliveries of materials, supplies, and equipment; managing department recycling; moving boxes; organizing department forms and supplies; minor cleaning duties; facility safety inspections (including checking department fire extinguishers and AEDs); and performing related tasks as assigned.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will possess integrity, reliability, courtesy, good judgment, initiative, alertness, and emotional maturity. Ability to get along with and work well with others. Ability and willingness to follow directions. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

QUALIFICATIONS:
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment; must be able to perform essential job functions of the position. Must possess a valid California C Driver’s License and have a satisfactory driving record. Applicants must be free of any felony convictions. Must be a United States citizen or resident alien who has applied for citizenship by date of appointment.

EDUCATION:
Applicants must have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENT WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position; manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, computer, business machines and related equipment; vision sufficient to read printed materials, visual display terminals; hearing sufficient to conduct in person telephone conversations, two-way radio; speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in a normal conversational distance, on the two-way radio, telephone; physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and reach overhead; physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment, physical strength to lift up to 20 lbs.; physical stamina sufficient to work a ten hour shift while sitting for prolonged periods of time; mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions. Ability to work in an office environment working a variety of shifts, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.

Benefits

Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act: California Paid Sick Leave Benefit, as amended effective 1/1/2024. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours and is available after 90 days of employment. There is no cash value associated with benefit.

Vacation Pay. This benefit is for part-time casual employees who work 30 or more days within a year from the beginning of employment with the City of Burlingame, and accrues at the rate of one hour for every 52 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 16 hours per year. No employee shall be allowed to have an accumulation of more than two years’ worth of vacation accrual to their credit at any one time.

No other benefits are offered. This position is at will and is not part of the City's Civil Service System. There is no guarantee of hours and employment may end at any time.
