Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION

As a Police Recruit, you will;
  • Attend a minimum of a sixteen-week training program under the supervision of instructors in a police academy approved by AZ POST to acquire the minimum and skills necessary to perform in Police Officer classification.
  • Read and study instructional or informational material in order to achieve elementary working knowledge.
  • Prepare for and take written physical tests to prove knowledge and skill levels.
  • Receive field training from certified Field Training Officer (FTO), utilizing and applying knowledge from classroom work; receives evaluations from FTO to track progress.
  • Obtain certification upon meeting AZ POST established minimum standards and passing required examinations (or waiver examinations) within a six-month period.

Has the ability to:

  • Pass written and physical agility examination.
  • Pass oral board interview.
  • Pass extensive background investigation.
  • Pass polygraph examination and drug test.
  • successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation including credit check, polygraph and psychological examination and meet the minimum POST standards for medical examination and physical ability.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED: all requirements must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Residency in the United States and within 25 miles of the City of San Luis.
  • A valid Arizona Driver’s License at the time of appointment
  • Must meet Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZ POST) and City of San Luis standards for appointment as a police officer.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age by the time of graduation from the Police Academy.
Education, Training, and Experience:
  • A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

DESIRED/PREFERRED:
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • San Luis, Arizona residency

LIFE INSURANCE - The City provides eligible employees with a Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) benefit. This plan is administered by Standard.

DISABILITY INSURANCE - Disability insurance is available to all employees who work 30 or more hours per week.

Short-Term Disability - Coverage begins on the 15th day of injury or sickness.
Duration of Benefits - 180 days
Benefits Percentage- 66.67%
Waiting Period - 14 days
Maximum Weekly Benefit: $2,000.00

WORKER'S COMP - Insurance coverage for medical expenses and loss of income due to an on-the-job injury is provided by the City of San Luis for all employees.
