Job Description

Salary: $1,819 - $2,223 semi-monthly *Salary may be based of education and/or experience

Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, St. Louis Regional Office, and will be located at the 7545 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63125.

What you'll do:
  • Develop and implement training plans and special courses that are consistent with state and federal programs for wastewater operators.
  • Review, monitor, and evaluate operator training materials provided by trainers other than department team members.
  • Proctor exams.
  • Make presentations to public or professional groups.
  • Provide technical and regulatory assistance to department team members, consulting firms, professional operators, and other wastewater officials.
  • Conduct orientation and on-the-job training of other employees regarding wastewater collection and treatment theory and processes of operation and control.
  • Assist with or conduct investigations and inspections.
All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalency and 4 years of relevant experience in actual plant operations and maintenance.
  • Two years must be at a system classified by the Department as a level "A", "B", or "C" or equivalent.
  • A valid vehicle operator's license is required (substitutions may be allowed).
(Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a current Missouri class "A" certificate of competency for wastewater treatment or drinking water treatment. (Individuals with water or wastewater operator certification from another state are encouraged to apply if the certificate if active, in good standing, and it was achieved by successfully passing the examination in that state. Missouri certification may be possible through reciprocity for states with comparable certification requirements).
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to perform field activities without assistance or support, commitment to customer service.
  • Experience in environmental work, management, experience and/or formal education in drinking water or wastewater; environmental testing of various media, environmental inspections work, training of team members, and emergency management.
