HIGGINSVILLE HABILITATION CENTER

Higginsville Habilitation Center is a state operated program within the Department of Mental Health that supports individuals receiving 24/7 services in a group home setting.

Registered Nurse Essential Job Functions:
Provide professional nursing care to HHC individuals Observe consumers' condition. Document findings and communicate to nursing staff and others as directed (Guardians, Superintendent, etc.) Report discrepancies in orders, care, medications, or treatments to the physician. Accompany individuals on medical appointments Educate direct care staff to ensure compliance with medication administration, personal care, etc. Know what to do in an emergency and how to use emergency equipment (O 2 , suction machine, AED, fire extinguisher) Administer prescribed medications and treatments as ordered by physician Ensure narcotic counts are accurate each shift Work overtime and work on other shifts as directed in order to provide sufficient staff coverage. Supervise license practical nurses Receives and records physician's orders according to accepted practices and facility policies. Call orders to pharmacy (new or refills) Keep Medication Administration Records (MAR) current Administer vaccines, IM's and TB tests Assist with monthly drug renewals Draw labs and process for pick-up Make rounds Assist PCP as needed Communicate medical needs to direct care staff Be able to use the two-way radio Work with Individuals' Team to assess consumers' needs, plan and modify care, and implement interventions. Attend meetings Schedule appointments Obtain consents as needed Maintain Individuals' chart Keep Immunizations, seizure records, etc current Assure all orders are signed by the Primary Care Physician (PCP) Complete paperwork as assigned Maintain med rooms Order supplies and restock as needed Assure cleanliness of room Ensure drugs are stored appropriately Maintain training Maintain current in CPR Complete new employee orientation Complete annual training or other training as assigned Adhere to ICF/DD regulations, facility policies, procedures, DOR's, Merit System Rules and Regulations. Physical requirements Can lift as least 50 pounds. Able to perform physical requirements including, but not limited to: 1) frequent standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, or crouching; 2) regular walking, talking, hearing, reaching with hands and arms (including above head); and 3) occasional climbing of stairs or balancing.
Requirements:
  • Current Missouri License as a Registered Nurse
  • Must possess a valid Missouri drivers' license in order to drive state transportation to transport individuals to a variety of locations for appointments, employment, leisure or vacations
  • Possess adequate vision to read written material
  • Possess adequate hearing
