The department currently consists of nearly 40 faculty, with about equal numbers of tenure-line and lecturers. DEPARTMENT: Computer Science POSITION TITLE: Lecturer Pool - Computer Science POSITION DETAILS: Sacramento State's Computer Science Department is one of the oldest and largest computer science programs in the CSU system. Having educated computer professionals since 1969, our programs currently serve approximately 1600 major students. The Department also offers a variety of non-major courses to students who seek practical experience in the application of information technology, enabling individuals with a background in other areas to obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to enter or advance in computer-related industries. Duties of a part-time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when there are instructional needs to fill coursework offered by an academic department based on changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, and other factors that cannot be addressed with our existing faculty. The salary schedule information for the Lecturer-Academic Year classification is available based on the following ranges: Lecturer AY ( Range 2 ): $4,530 - $6,056 Lecturer AY ( Range 3 ): $5,405 - $11,994 Lecturer AY ( Range 4 ): $6,190 - $13,172 Lecturer AY ( Range 5 ): $7,794 - $13,797 The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. DATES OF APPOINTMENT : Fall Semester Start & End dates: 08/19/24 - 12/20/24 Spring Semester Start & End dates: 01/21/25 - 05/23/25 QUALIFICATIONS : Master's degree in education or related field. Teaching experience in k-12 setting; advanced knowledge relative to course assignment; understanding of how adults learn; demonstrated ability to teach, and evaluate candidates from diverse educational, cultural, and work backgrounds; demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team as well as to make independent judgments; good written and oral communications skills; commitment to personal and professional lifelong learning; and willingness to be available and accessible to candidates.
