Full-time position available with the Health Department, Environmental Health Science Division located at 2400 Troost Ave
Salary Range: $24.77-$37.16/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized technical and administrative work in the Health Department involving the application of specialized knowledge in Integrated Pest Management.
  • Coordinates procedures required to attain program goals and objectives including assessing pest populations, risk for health effects, progress toward elimination and training for professionals and the general public for all types of pests including rats, roaches, pigeons, bedbugs, mice, ticks, mosquitos etc.
  • Applies basic principles and practices of Integrated Pest Management and performs increasingly difficult and responsible professional work commensurate with years of formal training and experience.
  • Work accomplishments are judged by an administrative superior through conferences, written reports and results achieved.
  • Provides basic information to the public and community organizations concerning specific public health problems, needs and concerns as they relate to rats and Integrated Pest Management.
  • Responds to all complaints received to the City either through 311, walk-ins or phone calls pertaining to pests and rat control.
  • Conducts field investigations to determine the type and extent of a potential infestation and provides education on remediation techniques.
  • Coordinates and schedules Integrated Pest Management treatment services, when needed.
  • Ensures all complaints are entered, assigned, and remediated in the City's 311 database pertaining to Integrated Pest Management including rats.
  • Provides advice and education on the treatment of other pests, including but not limited to bats, bees, mosquitos, roaches, bedbugs, and mice.
  • Conducts community outreach training to educate the public on remediation techniques for rat infestation(s) and Integrated Pest Management.
  • Maintains required records on Integrated Pest Management treatments and complaints; and prepares assigned reports from those records.
  • Assists in the development, installation and execution of Integrated Pest Management policies and procedures.
  • Makes interpretations and recommendations for improvement of administrative planning, organization and operation pertaining to the Program.
  • Enforces current City Ordinances pertaining to the Program.
  • Develops educational and programmatic programs and procedures regarding emerging pests and their related diseases and other health effects.
  • Works with media to promote and educate residents regarding pest issues.
  • Collects and analyzes data regarding pest populations, risk, health effects and progress toward goals.



Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in private, public, or community healthcare, community sanitation, health inspections, health education, data analysis, or related healthcare fields.; OR an accredited Master's degree in Public Health; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must pass a preemployment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
