Working Title Dean, California State University, Fresno Library (Administrator IV) The Anticipated Hiring Salary is $170,000 - $196,000 and is competitive and negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position. Position Details General Statement The Fresno State Library is the largest academic library between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It serves as the intellectual hub of Fresno State, where we encourage discovery, inquiry, and learning in order to empower and inspire our 24,000 students. We envision our space as a catalyst for investigation and knowledge creation, using innovative technology, strategic collection development, and creative techniques to serve our diverse student body and faculty. The Library provides forward-thinking services, including technology lending to faculty, staff, and students, a growing digital repository, integrated information literacy instruction, and student-centered campus partnerships supporting student success. Our collections are some of the most thorough in the CSU system and include over a million print volumes, hundreds of thousands of electronic resources, and significant special collections of children's literature, teacher resources, music and media, and world, regional, and local history. The Library also hosts numerous exhibitions and events to inspire and connect our campus and community. Library personnel includes 19 library faculty, 34 support staff, and 29 full-time equivalent student assistants, all working to create an inclusive center for our campus intellectual life. The Dean of Library Services reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves as a member of the Deans’ Council. The Dean leads out in all aspects of library-wide planning, budgeting, personnel planning and management, operations, communications, and policy development, and works closely with faculty, staff, and unit leads. The position works with the Associate Dean of the Library in implementing the vision, strategic plan, and strategic goals of the library, and provides leadership and management to ensure accountability, effective services, and library operations. The Dean provides vision and leadership for an evolving, comprehensive program of library services that integrates tools and practices for effective inquiry, creation, sharing, and use of scholarly and professional resources with the curricular and research activities of Fresno State faculty and students, while supporting diverse disciplines and professional practices, and internal and external community engagement. Working Title Dean, California State University, Fresno Library (Administrator IV) The Anticipated Hiring Salary is $170,000 - $196,000 and is competitive and negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position. Position Details General Statement The Fresno State Library is the largest academic library between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It serves as the intellectual hub of Fresno State, where we encourage discovery, inquiry, and learning in order to empower and inspire our 24,000 students. We envision our space as a catalyst for investigation and knowledge creation, using innovative technology, strategic collection development, and creative techniques to serve our diverse student body and faculty. The Library provides forward-thinking services, including technology lending to faculty, staff, and students, a growing digital repository, integrated information literacy instruction, and student-centered campus partnerships supporting student success. Library personnel includes 19 library faculty, 34 support staff, and 29 full-time equivalent student assistants, all working to create an inclusive center for our campus intellectual life. The Dean of Library Services reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves as a member of the Deans’ Council. The Dean leads out in all aspects of library-wide planning, budgeting, personnel planning and management, operations, communications, and policy development, and works closely with faculty, staff, and unit leads. The position works with the Associate Dean of the Library in implementing the vision, strategic plan, and strategic goals of the library, and provides leadership and management to ensure accountability, effective services, and library operations. The Dean provides vision and leadership for an evolving, comprehensive program of library services that integrates tools and practices for effective inquiry, creation, sharing, and use of scholarly and professional resources with the curricular and research activities of Fresno State faculty and students, while supporting diverse disciplines and professional practices, and internal and external community engagement. This position places the Dean as a member within a constellation of library-and university-wide groups, task forces, and project teams as appropriate and is expected to work comfortably and with a high degree of expertise in a shared decision-making environment. As a leader, the Dean will foster an environment of strategic and well-informed data-driven innovation. Responsibilities Primary teaching duties include courses on Performance, Literature, and Culture and Group Performance of Literature for Communication Studies majors, as well as general education students. Required Qualifications Ph.D. in Communication Studies, Performance Studies or related discipline, earned or nearing completion (degree completion expected no later than August 2024). Demonstrated success in undergraduate teaching. Strong record of scholarship in performance theory, methods, and/or practice with a focus on multi/cultural performance in the United States and/or transnational context(s). Evidence of potential for scholarly and/or creative achievement in AOS. Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, inclusion, diversity, and educational equity. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated university teaching experience in undergraduate performance of literature class or similar lower-division performance studies course. Potential for grant development in areas related to AOS. Willingness to participate in interdisciplinary programs overlapping with AOS, including course development and possible program curriculum development. Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching. Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings. Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
