Capable of overseeing operations such as sewer line locating, repairing, and/or installing sewer mains, lateral lines, and manholes with limited supervision. Assists Crew Leader in the training and development of subordinates. In absence of Crew Leader, capable of handling skilled tasks, some of which may require advanced wastewater knowledge. Possess advanced navigation skills for GIS mapping. Possess advanced knowledge of trench and soil safety. Able to calculate SSO data. For Level II: Must meet the requirements of Level I, and have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in wastewater collections and must have a TCEQ Level I Wastewater License. Must have completion of NIMS training course. For Level III: Must meet the requirements of Level I & II, and have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in wastewater collections. Must have one year of experience operating equipment. Must ha ve ability to create and close work orders in CityWorks. For Level IV : Must meet the requirements of Level I, II & III, and have a minimum of four years of relevant experience in wastewater collec tions. Must have two to three years of experience operating heavy equipment. Must have a TCEQ Collection II license. Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements. Description Performs work in one of the following trades at journeyman level: electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, and carpentry in the maintenance of County buildings and facilities. Follows direction of and reports to the Assistant Facilities Maintenance Director or designee. Works a forty (40) hour week. May require overtime. Examples of Duties Performs carpentry work in the construction and repair or alteration of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, screens and platforms. Performs work in the repair and maintenance of refrigeration, electrical, heating and air conditioning, and hot water units; installs insulation, replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, and other parts of electrical systems. Hangs sheetrock: sands, paints, or stains walls, woodwork, cabinets, tables, and other wooden articles. Performs plumbing work; installs water and sanitary fixtures and equipment; analyzes defects or malfunctions in plumbing systems; repairs leaks by replacing valves, faulty fittings, or sections of water line, or by installing replacement fixtures. Performs work in the construction or repair of sidewalks by making forms, mixing and pouring cement; performs finishing work on newly laid concrete surfaces; performs semi-skilled masonry work, i.e. installs bricks and concrete blocks. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the entry level classification in the building inspector series. Incumbents in this classification have a basic knowledge of the various codes, ordinances, and state laws used in building inspection. The Building Inspector I receives training under close supervision evolving toward general supervision as experience and training progresses. The Building Inspector I is distinguished from the Building Inspector II in that the latter is the journey level classification performing detailed combination field inspections requiring one of the following International Code Council (ICC) Combination Inspection certificates: R5 Residential Combination Inspector or J5 California Residential Combination Inspector.
