GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS Criminal History and Background Checks: The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602, Personnel Policies, and applicable federal and state laws. ABOUT THE POSITION The Clark County Fire Department Support Division is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Fire Equipment Technician. In this role, you will support suppression personnel in the maintenance and repair of a variety of safety equipment, including PPE and SCBA. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a team environment and can thrive in a paramilitary organization. The ability to grasp complex procedures quickly, mechanical aptitude, and attention to detail is required in this position. During the first year of employment, the successful candidate will need to obtain the following certifications and maintain them throughout their career: certification referring to breathing air apparatus; completion of a technical program related to repair and maintenance of FF support equipment or life support equipment; PSI and PCI Cylinder Inspection Certification; NFPA 1851 Advanced Cleaning Inspection Certification; Nevada OSHA Standard 1910.132; Class B Driver’s License with F Endorsement or higher; and Nevada Fire Instructor I and II Certifications. Overtime/Compensatory Time: All unit employees shall be compensated at a rate of time and one-half for all hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours per workweek. Recurrent Hourly Lifeguards may request compensatory time off subject to approval by the appointing authority. They may accumulate a maximum of eight (8) hours of compensatory time at the employee’s option. An additional sixteen (16) hours of compensatory time may accumulate with management approval. Use of compensatory time is subject to management approval on a request-by-request basis. Special Pay: All unit employees shall receive a pay advance of two pay steps and 5% of their base pay for obtaining their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. Skin Cancer Screenings: Annual skin cancer screening examinations shall be provided to all unit employees at a facility selected by City. Unit employees who are screened off duty will be paid one (1) hour of compensation. Sick Leave: Effective July 1 of each year, employees are granted 3 days or 24 hours, whichever is greater. In October of each year, employees will be granted one additional sick day or 8 hours of sick leave, whichever is greater, above the statutory paid sick leave. Employees may carry over accrued sick days to the following year, with a maximum cap of 6 days or 48 hours, whichever is greater. Accrued sick leave will be restored if an employee separates from the City but returns within 12 months.

Experience, Education and Training Guidelines Any combination of experience, education and training that would provide the best qualified candidates. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: Experience : Three years of journey level trades experience in the building construction field in one or more of the principle construction areas (Carpentry, Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing). Building inspection experience is highly desirable. Education : Equivalent to graduation from high school. An Associate degree in construction inspection, building inspection, or a related field is desirable. Training : Any recent training such as, academic courses and certification programs which are relevant to this job classification. Certification : Possession and maintenance of the Residential Building Inspector Certificate B1 or the California Residential Building Inspector J1 issued by International Code Council (ICC) is required within the probationary period. License : Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City. Other Requirements : Must have the willingness and ability to travel to attend classes, seminars and workshops during work and non-work hours; work scheduled and emergency overtime, as needed; and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
