Description FIELD/MAINTENANCE AIDE $18.50 PER HOUR The City of Livermore is looking for a responsible and independent individual to fill a part-time temporary position (no benefits). Reporting to the Library Department, this position will have courier type responsibilities as well as other office support functions as needed. E xamples of duties include: Fill and stack books into bins and load bins into City vehicle/van for transport Transport and deliver books, packages, and other library materials between the Civic Center Library and the two branches Pick up mail and packages from city facilities and deliver to their appropriate locations within Livermore Based on assignment, transport outgoing mail and packages to the local post office or to UPS/FedEx Stores Office support assignments such as collating and folding handouts, make photocopies, restock supplies, etc. Set up chairs and tables for meetings/presentations in the Library meeting rooms, as needed Other duties as needed The ideal candidate will be self-initiated with the ability to complete daily deliveries and other assigned tasks within the established timeframe. Candidates must be willing and able to safely lift and maneuver bins filled with books, packages, and other library materials weighing up to 60 pounds. This position will work Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM . Additional hours may be needed on occasion for coverage. The selected candidate for this position will be subject to a fingerprint criminal history check, DMV check, and a pre-employment physical by a City-designated physician. The ideal candidate must possess effective and cooperative communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to relate to a diverse group of people. Hours worked per week may vary, but include mostly weekend shifts Friday through Sunday. Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 - June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7 1/2% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice . Further restrictions apply to CalPERS retired annuitants. Examples of Essential Duties This assignment is for Facilities Rentals and the duties for this assignment are: Provide oversight throughout the duration of an event, assist with trash disposal and maintenance needs, crowd control as required, and noise abatement when necessary. Assumes responsibility to maintain the cleanliness of equipment and facilities. Spot cleans floors and restrooms as needed. Empties trash; picks up and removes litter from properties; replaces trash and garbage can liners. Sets up tables and chairs for special events, classes or programs, and performs clean-up duties after the event when necessary. Picks-up and delivers maintenance supplies as instructed. Assists with Specific Events Supervisor on City events on the beach and in the park. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of : Customer service, conflict resolution and emergency procedures. Ability to : Provide excellent customer service. Accept responsibility for the safety and well-being of library patrons. Make mature decisions. Work on an on-call basis. Education and Experience : Requires High School diploma or equivalent certificate and, three years directly related experience with demonstrated technical skills.
