Job Description


The Industrial Technology and Packaging Department in the Orfalea College of Business at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track, academic year position as Assistant Professor to begin on September 12, 2022. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, the successful candidate is expected to publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, be active in laboratory development and outreach projects, collaborate with other faculty on curriculum improvement, program assessment, and industry engagement.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Industrial/Manufacturing/Systems Engineering/Technology or a closely related discipline with a strong interest in teaching manufacturing and industrial automation courses. Knowledge and skills in digital manufacturing are essential. This expertise includes connected factory operations and supply chain (Industrial Internet of Things - IIoT), hardware and software laboratory setup for data monitoring and analytics, computer numerical control (CNC) manufacturing processes, and robot programming.

Applicants must also demonstrate experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required. Experience in teaching diverse students.


Knowledge and skills related to product design and development are desired. Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.
