We are seeking individuals who have a growing interest in public health science or natural scientific curiosity. This Senior Public Health Laboratory Scientist (SPHLS) is at the core of MSPHL success by delivering surveillance and diagnostic tools, assisting scientists in preparing specimen, and reporting health results. The SPHLS day to day work will include direct supervision of three Laboratory Support Assistants (LSAs) which involves coordinating the day to day responsibilities, facilitating cross-training and development of SPHLS and LSAs across all divisions of MSPHL, and coaching and assisting with professional development of all team members under their supervision according to their needs or feedback as well as the needs of the unit. What you'll do: Direct supervision of three Laboratory Support Assistants which involves coordinating the day to day responsibilities, Facilitate Cross-training and development of SPHLS and LSAs across all divisions of MSPHL, and coaching and assisting with professional development of all team members under their supervision according to their needs or feedback as well as the needs of the unit. Pursue required training hours per the Leadership Development Rule including training that covers technical topics, coaching/mentoring skills and leadership, while being involved with laboratory committees to represent the perspective of Central Accessioning, stay informed of topics that may affect the CA team and grow in their knowledge. Assist the Unit Manger in developing future areas for expansion of the Central Accessioning Team by training Central Accessioning team members to perform all job functions in compliance with CLIA regulation. Provide technical expertise and safety guidelines that can assist in the development and implementation of Central Accessioning Team job, aids compliance with MSPHL quality assurance and safety plans. Reviews expenditures for compliance and fund dispersal of grants, and manage team budget and supply procurement with oversight by Unit Manager Continuously review, improve, and implement laboratory accessioning processes to facilitate rapid laboratory testing and result reporting. Labeling and assigning analytical test within LIMS, while being a first line defense on sample integrity and deciding if the sample can be accepted or rejected, while receiving and processing of samples arriving at laboratory. This includes review of test request forms accompanying the sample to ensure data quality and follow up as needed. Assist other MSPHL units as needed this will include performing pre-analytical processes on samples such as centrifuging, grinding soil, paint and food, acid neutralization, etc. All you need for success: Minimum Qualifications Two or more years experience as a Public Health Laboratory Scientist with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Chemistry, Biology, Medical Laboratory Technology, natural sciences, or a closely related field; and four or more years of professional experience as a Chemist, Microbiologist, Medical Technologist, Veterinarian, Forensic Scientist, or a closely related area. (Earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in the specified areas or in Public Health or Public Administration may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the required experience at a rate of 24 earned graduate credit hours for one year of experience.
