Qualifications Qualifications: A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Five (5) years of recent, paid work experience developing, managing, organizing, supervising, and promoting aquatics programs, including two (2) years of supervisory experience is required. Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree (minimum 120 units) in Recreation, Public, or Business Administration or a related field is required. Licensing/Certificates: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, possession of a valid and appropriate California driver's license and acceptable driving record are required; Possession of valid American Red Cross or other National/State accredited certifications in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED and Water Safety Instructor are required at appointment; and Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor Certificate or Water Safety Instructor Trainer Certificate and a Certified Pool Operator License within six months of appointment. Introduction This position is represented by the SEIU bargaining unit and will receive salary increases based on the following schedule: Effective July 2024 - 4% Cost of Living Adjustment increase Effective July 2025 - 3% Cost of Living Adjustment increase This recruitment is being conducted to fill one Custody Recreation Assistant vacancy in the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office , and to establish an eligible list which may be used to fill future vacancies. Custody Recreation Assistants are responsible for leading and demonstrating recreational activities for inmates in the County's adult custody facilities. The schedule of the Custody Recreation Assistant will be Wednesday-Saturday; 10-hour shifts. Pre-Employment Drug Screening and Background : Potential new hires into this classification are required to successfully pass a law enforcement pre-employment drug screen and a background investigation as a condition of employment. Final appointment cannot be made unless the eligible has passed the drug screen and successfully completed the background process. The County pays for the initial drug screen. GENERAL PURPOSE: Assist with instruction of daily crafts, games, enrichment activities and field trips for children aged 5-16 years enrolled in Adventure Bound Day Camp programs at the Chilson Recreation Center.
