Department Summary The World Languages and Cultures Department (WLC), in the College of Liberal Arts, provides a BA degree in Spanish and minors in French, German, Italian Studies, Spanish, and Japanese. The Department serves all colleges in the University by offering language courses within General Education and electives. It is also active in aiding the University in foreign language endeavors and administers translation examinations in French, German, and Spanish for M.A candidates who require this; the Bilingual Proficiency Examination in Spanish for those students seeking entrance to the Bilingual Credential Program; and the Spanish Placement Examination for students whose majors require a language or students who wish to pursue a language but are unsure of placement. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures. Ability to perform business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track and analyze financial and/or budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring some inference. Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation. Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies and procedures. Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures. Education and Experience High school diploma or its equivalent. Type 45 wpm. Four years of general office support or technical experience. (Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for up to three years of the required experience on a year-to-year basis).
