The Town of Los Gatos is recruiting for an Equipment Mechanic or Supervising Equipment Mecha nic to join the Parks and Public Works Department. This is a great career opportunity for an independent, highly motivated, customer service-oriented, organized individual to: Oversee the maintenance and repair of about 100 vehicles, including emergency response vehicles, and a variety of equipment (e.g., generators, trailers, boom trucks, compressors, wheel loaders, street sweepers, etc.). Coordinate regular and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and equipment. Diagnose mechanical tissues and perform or coordinate the necessary repairs to ensure vehicles are in optimal working condition and meet proper safety protocols. Prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and ensure fleet readiness. Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to procure parts and equipment. Oversee the upfitting process for first responder vehicles, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools and technology to support emergency operations. Support maintenance of the Department's asset management software to track vehicle and equipment maintenance schedules and inventory. Provide excellent customer service to internal stakeholders, promptly responding to repair requests and informing them of maintenance progress. Supervise a part-time mechanic. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical experience working on various vehicles, including gas, diesel, hybrid and electric engines, analyzing automotive issues, and performing mechanical repairs. They will be proficient in using or willing to learn asset management software for tracking maintenance schedules and inventory. They will possess strong customer service skills and be able to communicate effectively with team members and internal clients. ABOUT THE TOWN The Town of Los Gatos is a general law city operating under the Council/Manager form of government. The Town Manager and Town Attorney are appointed and directly report to the Town Council. The Town’s 200 full- and part-time employees are organized into the following departments: Parks & Public Works, Community Development, Police, Library; and Administrative Services. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Equipment Mechanic: Completion of the twelfth grade, GED or equivalent, and completion of a State of California accredited apprentice program. Three years of journey-level experience, including the maintenance of diesel engines and heavy equipment. One year of directly related post-secondary coursework may be substituted for one year of the experience requirement. Supervising Equipment Mechanic: Completion of the twelfth grade, GED or equivalent, and completion of a State of California accredited apprentice program. Five years of journey-level experience, three of the five years comparable to the Town's Equipment Mechanic classification, including the maintenance of diesel engines and heavy equipment. Completion of a supervisory or leadership training program within two years of appointment is required. License and Certification: A California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment and: Equipment and Supervising Equipment Mechanic: Class A with a Tanker endorsement at appointment.
