Maintains Airfield Electrical Systems: Runway and Taxiway Lighting Systems, Roadways, Parking Lots, Emergency Power Generators, Lighting Control Systems, Communications Systems and Airfield Facilities Electrical Systems. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. Operates, tests, troubleshoots, and makes repairs to Federal Aviation Administration FAA approved airfield electrical equipment, constant current regulators, and Airfield Lighting Control Monitoring System (ALCMS) equipment. Reads and interprets all types of electrical and electronic schematics. Participates in the design and planning of electrical projects to include plan development, permit application, design, and installation of all Airport electrical and electronic systems. May be required to design and implement systems. Participates in the design, installation, and maintenance of airport security systems, fiber optic systems, electronic surveillance cameras and systems, electronic noise abatement systems, and any other electronic security system as required. Continually reviews and updates Airfield and Landside electrical devices and electronic systems to address future requirements. Inspects and installs Airport lighting systems and recommends repairs or upgrades in accordance with FAA recommendations. Inspects, installs, maintains, and repairs airport runway and taxiway electrical distribution systems and fixtures including insulators, cutouts, transformers, switches, conduits, circuit breakers and regulators; and frequently works with series loop circuits and high voltages up to 5000-volts and above. Communicates with the FAA control tower personnel via FAA radio using their communication specific method/language. Access the airport movement area in accordance with FAA personnel and airfield signage Maintains and replaces FAA approved lighting, runway fixtures, taxiway LED and quartz fixtures, threshold fixtures, Runway End Identifier Lights (REIL) equipment, Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) equipment, runway guard lights, and a rotating beacon to FAA specifications. Tests, troubleshoots, repairs, or replaces FAA approved signage used to signal and guide planes around the airport. Ensures proper functioning of electric gates and accessories; troubleshoots issues with gate operator. Maintains inventory of supplies for repairs and emergencies Assists the airport engineer with updating the airport’s as-built blueprints on location and inventory of integral infrastructure such as underground utilities. Attends airfield project meetings during planning, design, and plan review. Assists in preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) May be required to perform "stand-by duty", being available and responding to off-duty emergency call-ins to effect repairs to malfunctioning electrical, electronic and/or instrument systems. Performs related work as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT High School Diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or a vocational / technical certification in electric work and 3 or more years of experience at the journeyman level. Completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year for year basis for one year of the required experience. Journeyman Electrician Certificate issued by the Broward County Central Examining Board. Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire. Knowledge and experience maintaining airfield electrical systems preferred. Special Requirements: Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee’s Department Head will determine who will be required to work. PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp, stand and access heights or areas where limited space is available.
