The Department of Marine Science at CSUMB offers a B.S. degree in Marine Science. The College of Science also offers nine undergraduate degrees including a B.S. in Biology and Environmental Science, as well as a B.A. in Environmental Studies. Faculty in the Department of Marine Science can advise thesis students in the M.S. program in Marine Science at nearby Moss Landing Marine Laboratories through the CSU consortium program and through the thesis track of the CSUMB Environmental Science Professional Science Master's Program. All the programs emphasize the critical thinking and technical skills necessary to develop workable solutions for complex environmental problems. Unique in their approach to linking marine science to management and decision-making, the B.S./M.S. in Marine Science and the M.S. in Environmental Science provide students with active learning and applied research in a wide variety of marine systems. RESPONSIBILITIES : Teach primarily undergraduate courses (12 units/semester - up to 3 units of these units can be for mentoring undergraduate and masters student research). Employ innovative teaching and learning techniques that engage students through the use of technology, hands-on experience, and problem solving. Integrate field-based experiences for students into classes. Advise and mentor undergraduate and masters students in research, academics, capstone projects, internships, and post-degree career options. Contribute to the Department of Marine Science, College of Science, and University-wide governance through participation at faculty meetings and through committee work. The department will start accepting students in Fall 2024. The hired faculty will have the resources of a Title V grant to design new teaching and research spaces, as well as outfit these spaces with new equipment. This academic year (AY) position begins in Fall 2024. The program will seek ABET accreditation. This new program will build on existing strengths in the College of Science and is designed to meet the needs of regional industries emphasizing agriculture technology, with additional applications in marine exploration and aviation. RESPONSIBILITIES : The successful candidate will help with the development of the Mechatronics Engineering degree program, including hiring new faculty and staff. Develop and teach lower and upper division undergraduate courses (12 units/semester) in Mechatronics Engineering courses, including the associated laboratories. Engage in independent, publishable research and scholarly activities in field of specialization. Solicit funds to private and government entities to sustain research activities. Supervise student research and capstone projects. Advise and mentor students in research, academics, capstone projects, internships and post-degree options. Provide professionally related service to the department, college, university, and community through participation at faculty meetings and committees.
