General Purpose Under general supervision, oversees and maintains the horticultural resources of Fresno City College (FCC) including the botanical garden, greenhouse and koi pond; conducts walking tours of the garden and tree collection for the public and student groups; provides instructional assistance to faculty and students in biology, botany and adaptive horticulture courses of study; and performs related duties as assigned. Oversees participates in greenhouse operations; maintains and propagates new vegetation; mixes, orders and maintains growth mixtures and planting supplies; maintains and makes minor repairs to greenhouse facilities and cooling systems and to irrigation systems; refers major maintenance and repair to the greenhouse and irrigation systems to Building and Grounds Services for action. Prepares, sets up and performs demonstrations of biology and botany principles such as photosynthesis, plant propagation, plant types and others; prepares biological specimens for classroom use; prepares flora and fauna displays for use in plant identification; responds to student questions regarding concepts, methods and techniques; provides clear and concise explanations and demonstrations to facilitate student understanding and reinforce instructor teaching; assists faculty and students during greenhouse-based laboratory activities; monitors students as they receive hands-on learning in the greenhouse and botanical gardens. Demonstrates the proper and safe use of laboratory equipment and the proper use, storage and disposal of pesticides, chemicals and other hazardous materials; maintains and updates Materials Safety Data Sheet notebooks as required by law; maintains accident report guidance documents and files of accident reports; arranges for pickup of hazardous waste. Stocks and replenishes an inventory of materials and consumables; tracks supplies usage; prepares purchase requisitions to ensure sufficient materials for laboratory, greenhouse and botanic gardens use; arranges for major repair or replacement of tools and equipment. Participates in selecting, training and providing day-to-day lead work direction to student assistants, aides and volunteers; assigns and monitors work for completeness, accuracy and conformance with District, department and legal/regulatory requirements and standards; provides information, instruction and training on work procedures and technical, legal and regulatory and safety requirements; assists in ensuring a fair, open and inclusive work environment in accordance with the District's mission goals and values. Leads walking tours of the gardens for the public, school groups and FCC class groups; provides information on tree and plant species and their origins. Demonstrates sensitivity to and understanding of historically minoritized groups and participates in professional development activities to increase cultural competency to enhance equity-minded practices within the District. MOBILE CRISIS CONTINUUM: T he Mobile Crisis Continuum unit encompasses the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) and the Transition and Outreach Team (TOT). These two teams work closely together. All clinicians, across programs, are trained and certified to initiate 5150 applications. Both teams are expected to cross-train and provide coverage as needed. The MCRT focus is on acute crisis intervention and the TOT focus is on short term, intensive case management and linkage for clients at risk of and/or coming out of a behavioral health crisis. MCRT: Duties include, but are not limited to, community-based intervention as part of a team of two responding to acute behavioral health crises. Duties as the clinician also includes answering and logging calls for service utilizing a standardized intake screening tool, providing consultation and recommendations as indicated, information and education, as well as provision of solo response to secure and/or safe locations. All calls for service are documented in the County’s designated Electronic Health Record (EHR). The youth focused positions may entail short-term case management, support, and linkage to services as well as collaboration with families, schools, and the foster system. With information derived from a clinical interview, nursing reports, case history, and collateral information the Crisis Specialist writes a semi-structured report, develops, and implements a brief treatment and safety plan for clients under their care. This may include making referrals to appropriate agencies and levels of care based on the assessment and level of acuity. The youth-focused positions will also be required to build relationships and outreach to all schools in the county from elementary age to Junior College.All MCRT roles require a significant degree of independence as well as the ability to collaborate with team members and community-based organizations, including schools, hospitals, law enforcement, and private therapists, independent clinics, and juvenile hall. The positions are shift-based including weekends and holidays. TOT: A safety net service and the duties include, but are not limited to, short term, intensive community-based case management alongside a Peer Support Specialist (PSS) with the focus on linkage to long term behavioral health services. MOBILE CRISIS CONTINUUM: T he Mobile Crisis Continuum unit encompasses the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) and the Transition and Outreach Team (TOT). These two teams work closely together. All clinicians, across programs, are trained and certified to initiate 5150 applications. Both teams are expected to cross-train and provide coverage as needed. The MCRT focus is on acute crisis intervention and the TOT focus is on short term, intensive case management and linkage for clients at risk of and/or coming out of a behavioral health crisis. MCRT: Duties include, but are not limited to, community-based intervention as part of a team of two responding to acute behavioral health crises. Duties as the clinician also includes answering and logging calls for service utilizing a standardized intake screening tool, providing consultation and recommendations as indicated, information and education, as well as provision of solo response to secure and/or safe locations. All calls for service are documented in the County’s designated Electronic Health Record (EHR). The youth focused positions may entail short-term case management, support, and linkage to services as well as collaboration with families, schools, and the foster system. With information derived from a clinical interview, nursing reports, case history, and collateral information the Crisis Specialist writes a semi-structured report, develops, and implements a brief treatment and safety plan for clients under their care. This may include making referrals to appropriate agencies and levels of care based on the assessment and level of acuity. The youth-focused positions will also be required to build relationships and outreach to all schools in the county from elementary age to Junior College.All MCRT roles require a significant degree of independence as well as the ability to collaborate with team members and community-based organizations, including schools, hospitals, law enforcement, and private therapists, independent clinics, and juvenile hall. The positions are shift-based including weekends and holidays. TOT: A safety net service and the duties include, but are not limited to, short term, intensive community-based case management alongside a Peer Support Specialist (PSS) with the focus on linkage to long term behavioral health services. This team is also responsible for developing an in depth understanding of available resources in the county and utilize warm hand-offs to ensure continuity of care. Probation Intake Interviews youth and families referred to the Court via citation or booking obtaining the correct demographic information and entering it into FamilyTRACS; Administers the Intake pre-screen on each youth; If releasing a youth on a return agreement, completes the return agreement form using the appropriate return date; Transports youth to alternative placement settings, appointments or home as needed; Provides crisis intervention when needed; Provides general information and resources to walk-in clients or community calls; Presents recommendations at Detention, Plea, and verbal Report and Dispositional Hearings; Provides case management services to youth on Hold Open status; Provides in-home interventions; Divert appropriate youth through referrals to The Harbor and informal probation programs Field Probation Provides services and monitoring to ensure compliance with Court Orders; Provides supervision of youth in their own homes, group or foster homes, residential treatment centers (RTC), and other programs; Responsible for keeping complete and accurate case notes and entering that information in FamilyTRACS by the indicated timelines; Monitors youth’s school attendance and academics; Assists youth in developing competency in job seeking skills; Visits youth and families within community settings (home, school) Involves family in the facilitation of the treatment program. Networks with community resource providers; Refers youth and families to appropriate community resources when needed; Prepares written reports and documentation on youth’s progress; Gives oral presentations in Court, in staffings, and during unit meetings; Monitors youth in community service programs and tracks the work of youth who are required to complete community service hours; Enters “face to face,” telephone and other contacts as specified in FamilyTRACS in intervals as indicated by the assigned supervision levels or standards set forth; Provides in-home interventions; Administers validated assessment tools and utilizes results to inform case plans PHYSICAL DEMANDS Mobility to work in a typical court, detention or public safety setting to include standing and/or walking for an extended period of time, and strength to restrain and/or eject individuals, use standard office equipment, and be capable of commuting to various off-site locations in order to attend meetings or make on-site visits; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Specified positions may require mobility and stamina to assist youth, families, adults and/or seniors experiencing crisis and support client safety and well-being.
