Water Resources: Under the direction of Engineering staff, assists in the collection of field data; generates technical data, organizes documents, and coordinates data transmission to others; conducts manufacture website surveys for engineering drawings and equipment documentation; scans, records, maintains and organizes directories; updates and creates engineering drawings utilizing MicroStation; assists with the preparation and distribution of reports and documents; processes correspondence and material requisitions; performs other functions as assigned. CIP Engineering: Assignments are made to support the design and/or construction phase of projects. In the design phase and under the direction of Engineering staff, the intern assists with the preparation of engineering drawings and estimates; prepares and modifies spreadsheets, project displays, and various reports; conducts data research, field investigations, and responds to the public and other agencies; performs a variety of general office tasks; and performs other related functions as assigned. Description DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS Engineering Division - Land Development Transportation & Traffic Division PART-TIME INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY Starting Date: May-June 2024 timeframe A paid intern position is available with the Engineering Division - Land Development Section. Candidates will also be considered for an open summer full-time intern position with the Transportation and Traffic Division. The position is an excellent opportunity for a College Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student wishing to obtain work experience in the Civil Engineering field. This internship will involve office work and some field visits. Selected individuals must be on-site at the City of Sunnyvale (City Hall). Working conditions are subject to change depending on public health orders. Enrichment Opportunities Learn basic principles and practices of civil engineering as related to land development, including the California Subdivision Map Act, or related to transportation planning and traffic engineering. Assist City staff on review of development projects, which may include design and construction inspection. Special Notes Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
