The Division of Legal Services (DLS) is looking for a Legal Assistant to join our team in the Litigation Unit , located in Raytown, MO. Job Location: This position is located at the Teasdale State Office Building, 8800 E 63rd St, 5th Floor, Raytown, Missouri. What you’ll do: The duties of this position require an individual who is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently, has a positive attitude and is flexible and eager to learn. This person will assist attorneys who represent the Department in juvenile court, circuit court, and administrative hearings, as well as direct legal support to Children’s Division. This person must exhibit professionalism in communicating in person, on the phone, and in writing. The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to; Supporting the attorneys of DLS; Assist in electronically filing (ECF) legal documents with the courts when necessary; Create and maintaining case files; Requesting records and reports; Calendaring court appearances and meetings for attorneys. Assist in scheduling depositions and attending when necessary. Work as a team with two other legal assistants to maintain the mainline and incoming mail. Preparing letters, drafting legal documents and correspondence with little to no direction or supervision. Preparing documents for BATES stamping. Assisting in trial preparation and attending trial when necessary. Managing the referral emails, and opening and/or closing case referrals. Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree or 2-4 years of experience in a legal environment. (Substitutions may be allowed.) Preferred Qualifications: This position will also perform other related work as assigned based on desired goals and objectives. Interested candidates should possess comprehensive knowledge of business grammar, composition, and spelling; and computer information systems and software such as Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Pro. Prior experience as a legal assistant is preferred, but not required. Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.
