Job Description

Agricultural Enforcement Officers are field agents and inspectors (peace officers) of the Department of Agriculture, and as such, enforce all State agricultural laws and regulations. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position works within the Department of Agriculture and is located in Elko, NV. Applicants must meet a minimum Category II current P.O.S.T., Peace Officer Standards & Training requirements as established in Nevada Revised Statues & Nevada Administrative Code prior to appointment The incumbent will be trained to provide protection of public health and safety for the residents and visitors of the state; conduct livestock inspections, perform investigations and law enforcement duties for all livestock, estray/feral horses or animal related events or incidents to include animal health inspection requirements, theft of livestock and animal cruelty. Additional responsibilities consist of monitoring animals located within or entering the area of state from other states and international locations; conducting traffic stops on commercial/private agricultural vehicles on roadways and carrying out inspections at highway check sites. Provides assistance and works in conjunction with other state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies. Applicants must be available to work in other geographic locations on occasion. This position requires up to 50% travel. A State of Nevada/FBI background check and polygraph examination will be required of the selected applicant prior to appointment.
