Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Correctional Nurse II works under the supervision of the Correctional Nurse III and will consult with them on a regular basis. They will communicate plans with team members by attending nursing meetings and sharing with other team members; assist with team responsibilities and assignments as necessary; use patient problems to plan patient care addressing chief presenting problems incorporating the plan of nursing care into the multidisciplinary treatment plan; collect/document the medical/mental health conditions of patients using appropriate charting protocols. Complete health assessments; collect statistical date, tracking current outpatient medications and patient outcomes; review inmates to determine need for referrals or assessment; follow NDOC's Personnel Code of Ethic outlined in AR339; observe all safety practices at all times for the safely of self and others; follow Department accident reporting procedures; and comply with all OSHA guidelines. Incumbents will be working directly with inmates to carry out nursing care assignments, promote optimal health and patient independence, document problems requiring nursing interventions, document patient teaching needs and discharge planning, communicate care plans to other nurses to maintain continuity of care.
