About the Role:

Works in fully integrated psychiatric and medical team, participating in daily huddles and supporting psychiatry staff daily. Responsible for performing duties in the Outpatient Mental Health Adult Services setting related to the assessment and management of behavioral health care. Takes vitals and readies patients for psychiatric appointments. Cross-trained to work with medical team in medical assistant role as needed. Assists patients in applying for patient assistant program and monitors expiration of programs and medications. Reaches out and follows up with patients as needed. Meets with pharmaceutical drug reps as needed. Work involves assisting medical staff with direct patient contact and is performed in accordance with prescribed methods, techniques, and procedures. Performs phlebotomy as needed.

Location: 16868 West Peterson Road, Libertyville IL

Hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (8:30am - 4:30pm) Tuesday and Thursday (11:00am - 7:00pm)

Skills and Experience

  • Charts chief complaints of patients and notifies the nurse/physician of unusual symptoms, behaviors, or statements requiring intervention. or complaints.
  • Takes blood pressure, height, weight, waist circumference as specified by program, completing accurate and thorough documentation in electronic medical record.
  • Comes prepared to daily huddles with huddle report for providers and information regarding patients for the day.
  • Maintains ordered supplies and keeps area stocked. Checks for medical supplies and discards those that are outdated. Notifies nurse or office manager when stock are low and what supplies are needed
  • Follows Joint Commission and other auditing bodies, keeping the medication closet in audit readiness condition.
  • Assisting the physician and nurse with direct client care as well as tasks such as filing, chart documentation, faxes, prescription medical programs and telephone follow-up as assigned.
  • Provides patient care, including administering medications, according to Provider’s orders within their scope of practice, established standards and administrative policies of the department.
  • Develops and maintains a basic knowledge of services available at the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Centers (LCHD/CHC).

Education, Qualifications, and Certification:

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED.
  • Requires 2 years experience in physician office or hospital setting. Knowledge of psychiatric conditions preferred.
  • Medical assistant certification is required.
  • Ability to maintain and keep records.
  • Knowledge of or willing to learn terms related to psychiatric disorders and medications.
