DEFINITION Under direct supervision, performs maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment used in wastewater treatment, collection, storm, and water distribution systems; and performs other duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The Water Resources Mechanic I performs a range of tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures. Independent judgment is required and is supported at regular intervals by supervisory review and direction. This classification is distinguished from the Water Resources Mechanic II in that the latter classification possesses advanced journey level mechanical ability and aptitude and is responsible for the higher technical problem solving issues. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Direct supervision is provided by the assigned Water Resources Coordinator. Work assignments and direction may also be received from the Public Works Supervisor.
